Based on the course computer communications the architecture of IP networks is known. Contents of this course will be additional networking technologies such as circuit switching (telephony, SONET/SDH/WDM) and networks with virtual circuit switching (ATM, MPLS) as well as network virtualization (SDN, NFV), multimedia communications over packet switched networks (streaming, RTP, SIP, multicast), quality-of-service in packet switched networks (integrated services, RSVP, differentiated services, active queue management, policing, scheduling), wireless and mobile communications (GSM, UMTS, LTE, 5G, Wimax, WLAN, Bluetooth, sensor networks such as ZigBee). Industrial communication will also be a topic. In the tutorial practical tasks are performed in the laboratory: One laboratory contains several IP routers, switches and computers, IP phones and VoIP telephone software. Various configurations are set up and tested. Another part of the tutorial deals with mobile communications.
- Knowledge of technologies in circuit and packet switching in wired and wireless/mobile networks
- Knowledge of the foundations of quality of service mechanisms in packet switched networks
- Practical experience in configuring an IP switch router network with multimedia traffic

Lecture Slides
The lecture is going to take place in face-to-face fashion beginning on 17th Oct. 2024. All materials are going to be available in the StudOn course (lecture area).
Exercises
The exercise classes are going to take place in the form of face-to-face fashion beginning on 21th Oct. 2024. You have to join the StudOn course, where you can find more information about the exercise class registration.
As the number of devices in our lab is limited, the maximum number of students per exercise class is 12.
The exercise class on Thursdays at 08:15 am is optional and will only take place if the total number of students is high enough.
